Becoming a Recording Engineer

Recording engineers shape the sound of an album. They record, edit, and mix sounds utilizing sound manipulation techniques. They are knowledgeable and well-versed in all of today's recording technology, including multitrack recording programs such as ProTools. They are also often the producer and audio engineer for a session, overseeing both artistic and technical elements of the recording process.

While today's advanced technology allows almost anyone to record sound and music at home, training and experience are essential to becoming a respected and sought-after leader in the recording industry. At Apprentice Academy, we work one-on-one with students, both in-house in our Franklin, Tennessee, studio, as well as at-home learners, to offer the best education and training in the field of audio engineering. Our students have weekly one-on-one sessions with their instructors, weekly group sessions in the studio, as well as two hours of dedicated studio time at The West Barn, our state-of-the-art recording facility. Our local students are also given the opportunity to participate and assist with studio session and events, offering hands-on experience. We also facilitate special guest lectures and workshops hosted by some of today’s top music industry professionals.
